Freedom Foods Tropico’s brings nothing artificial to the breakfast table

Oh yeah.  You read that right.

Nothing.  Artificial.  Nothing.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.

Let me reiterate this once more – NOTHING ARTIFICIAL!

So what exactly is this Froot Loops-like cereal made from…and why am I blogging about them?

Well, I’m blogging about this cereal because it was a new gluten-free item that I spotted at Whole Foods.  And it was inexpensive for a gluten-free cereal.  And I hadn’t had Froot Loops since I was really, really little.  And sometimes, even as an adult…you just want something to remind you of your childhood.  The only thing I looked at on the box was the sugar, and it was low for a cereal, so I put it in my shopping basket as I was going to need gluten-free cereal anyway…and away I went.

I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Normally I equate inexpensive gluten-free foods with disgusting gluten-free cardboard flavor.  So, when my current cereal was gone and I popped this box open yesterday…I was almost hesitant to settle in for breakfast.  I can be quite adventurous, but I also was on a tight schedule yesterday and not liking my cereal would have put a big crimp in the morning activities and energy level, for sure.  But, after my first spoonful…I worried no more.

Not only do these taste better than Froot Loops, but you can tell they aren’t laden down with unnecessary sugar either.  The flavors are all natural, because, as I said, Freedom Foods believes very strongly in their products having nothing artificial in them.  That means the colors are all natural and the flavors are all natural.  So…what does this mean?  It means this fantastic fruit flavor is coming from…yep…natural fruit flavor.  Imagine that.  Getting a fruit flavor from…fruit.  And the proof is on the taste buds.  While these are definitely not as sweet as Froot Loops, these are definitely packed with great flavor and offer a gluten-free version of that childhood classic.  As for the color…that is also all-natural, being drawn from turmeric, fermented rice powder, gardenia flower extract, and sweet potato extract.  For real!  Sure, the colors aren’t as bold or bright or unnatural as the original Kellogg’s brand cereal…but I don’t need my colors to pop.  I need cereals that don’t use artificial dyes and sweeteners.  And Freedom Foods is offering that.  And these aren’t just for kids…obviously.  The fruity flavor is really amazing and I dug in, spoonful after spoonful until it was, sadly, gone.

Freedom Foods is free from gluten, wheat, nuts, dairy, sesame, soy, and eggs.  As I mentioned before, the colors and flavors are all natural.  This cereal is low in salt, a great source of fiber, and completely preservative free.  No BHT here.  You’ll find it in Froot Loops though.  You’ll find soy, wheat, and hydrogenated oils in Froot Loops too.  Oh…and artificial colors.  Why eat something artificial when you can eat something that comes from natural ingredients.  That’s how food should be made.  It’s even better when the food is as delicious as this turned out to be.

Nutritionally speaking, a serving is 1 cup of Tropico’s cereal, which will set you back 130 calories and only less than 1 gram of fat.  This serving will also provide you with a scant 40 mg of sodium, 8 grams of sugar, 2 grams of fiber and 2 grams of protein.  While Kellogg’s Froot Loops variety has fewer calories, it has a little more fat, definitely more sodium, and 12 grams of sugar.  I think I’ll take the 20 extra calories for something that is all natural and has less sugar in it.  Thank you very much.

Freedom Foods Tropico’s is just one cereal that I found.  There are quite a few others lining the shelves.  And, according to the Web site, some other options as well that Whole Foods might not have yet.  That being said, I am looking forward to trying another type of their cereal because they have completely wowed me with this one.  Maybe I’m still a kid at heart, but this is a cereal parents can feel confident giving to their children and adults can enjoy as well.  It’s all natural…and all good.

Purely Elizabeth Blueberry Hemp Ancient Grain Granola a step above the rest

Flavor.  Texture.  Taste.  Ingredients.

Everything that goes into a granola has to be spot on.  Because a good granola will not be laden with sugar.  If you are currently consuming a granola with a high sugar content…STOP!  Just stop…now.  There are better, healthier, more filling options out there that give your body the proper balance of nutrients it needs…instead of filling you up (briefly) with sugar.

One such brand…is Purely Elizabeth.

I originally tried the Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Fig granola a couple months ago…and fell in love with it.  I was a bit leery about it…but it surprised me.  Even more, the fact that it wasn’t laden down with chemicals, sugars, and unhealthy things made it all the more enjoyable to consume.  Flavor was top of the line.  It is one of the more expensive gluten-free granola on the market…but it’s worth it.  Trust me.

That being said, when I found myself laden with fresh fruits and berries in my CSA bin this week…I picked up some Greek yogurt and figured breakfast parfaits would be an amazing addition to my favorite meal of the day.  But…I’d need granola.  And while there is a wide variety of gluten-free options out there, I was biding my time while hitting the various grocery stores that I haunt week in and week out.  On my very last stop, I decided I would just go with whatever was there.  And what was there were quite a few options…but imagine my joy at seeing the bags of Purely Elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola Cereal on the bottom shelf.  I didn’t hesitate for a moment.  Well…one moment…but that was just because I needed to choose a flavor.  Only two remained…the Pumpkin Fig, which I had already tried previously…and the Blueberry Hemp.

Blueberry Hemp won and found its way into my shopping cart…then in my shopping bag…then in my pantry.

It was opened up and tried the very next morning.

Let’s start with the basics of this variety and brand.  The Purely Elizabeth Blueberry Hemp Ancient Grain Granola is made with all natural, organic, and gluten-free ingredients that include quinoa, amaranth, chia seeds, and raw virgin coconut oil.  What these ingredients impart on the cereal is a nutritious blend of protein, b vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, antioxidants, energy-providing fatty acids, as well as anti-viral and anti-microbial properties.  It sounds like a lot of technical mambo-jumbo, I understand.  But it boils down to…you aren’t getting any GMO ingredients, any refined sugars, no artificial colors, some good-for-you fats, and lots of overall vitamins and good stuff for your body.  Not.  Just.  Junk.

The evidence is in the ingredients: organic certified gluten-free oats, organic coconut palm sugar, organic raw virgin coconut oil, dried blueberries, organic puffed amaranth, organic quinoa flakes, organic sunflower seeds, organic hemp seeds, organic chia seeds, organic cinnamon, sea salt.

Anything you don’t recognize?  Exactly my point.  If you can honestly say you know what everything in a product is…I’d say that product is safe to consume.

But…that big looming question awaits…

How does it taste?

There aren’t enough words…but it is SUPER delicious.  AMAZING.  Really YUMMY!  It is, perhaps, my favorite gluten-free granola I have bought yet.  I mean…the texture is really good.  Crispy, with a hint of sweetness from the coconut palm sugar.  The dried blueberries give it an added boost of sweetness that ties in so wonderfully with the ancient grains and seeds that help give this granola its fantastic, crunchy texture.  This…is granola with the volume turned up to 11.  It’s, by far, the best one I have ever eaten…and trust me…go back through my blog…I have sampled quite a few.

Nutritionally speaking…a serving of Purely Elizabeth Blueberry Hemp Ancient Grain Granola is 1/3 cup.  With this serving, you are consuming 140 calories and 6 grams of fat, much of which is the healthy fats your body uses for energy.  Loving that.  This serving will also give you 2 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein.  As for that sugar content…only 6 grams in a serving.  That’s awesome from a granola.  This granola is also cholesterol free and low in sodium (only 110 mg).

Granola that supplies your body with nutrients and not sugar…I’m perfectly okay with that.  Even better…it’s not only good for you…it tastes great too.  SOLD!!  Go ahead…find it at your local stores and try it.  Believe me…it’s worth the price tag.  So…so worth it.

Sweet vanilla flavor and crunchy texture make Udi’s Gluten-Free granola a favorite

Special Delivery of Udi’s Gluten-Free Goodies – including brand new products!

Product: Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola – $6.50+

A little while back, I received a nice box of goodies from Udi’s Gluten-Free, containing some of their old products and a few of their new products.  Now…one of the first gluten-free products I actually enjoyed eating came from Udi’s.  I believe it was their bread…and I think it made me cry because I was finally eating gluten-free bread that actually tasted like bread.  I was in Colorado at the time.  At a convention.  And it felt like I had just won the lottery.  Nothing could have made me happier.

Since that initial taste, I’ve been a staunch supporter of Udi’s products.  In fact, I’ve tried most of their older products at some point and have enjoyed every single one of them…save the Cinnamon Rolls.  They just don’t…do it for me.  Perhaps it’s because I’ve been spoiled by gluten-free bakeries like Annie May’s Sweet Café here in Louisville, Kentucky, and Sinfully Gluten Free in Dayton, Ohio…whose gluten-free cinnamon rolls are to die for.  Udi’s just hasn’t mastered that product yet.  But…that’s okay.  Everything else…is addicting.  To the point I have my cousin in Minnesota (who does not have to eat gluten-free) completely addicted to and purchasing Udi’s Gluten-Free Double Chocolate Muffins.

No lie.  I got her hooked on them last year when I was out to visit my grandpa and my family.  If people who can eat anything prefer Udi’s…well…they are doing something right!

Udi's Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola
Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola

Some of you may realize that I am a breakfast person.  I love me some breakfast.  LOVE it.  I could eat breakfast for every meal of the day and not get tired of it.  Breakfast is so versatile and so many varieties of food can be made into a breakfast treat of some sort.

Well, one of my favorite things to make for breakfast is a fruit and Greek yogurt parfait.  I give these some texture by adding gluten-free granola.  And, let me tell you…I have pretty much exhausted the market of gluten-free granola.  At least the ones I can find in this area.  Every now and again I’ll stumble across one that I haven’t tried yet…but…yeah…I’ve pretty much got the granola available around here covered.

But…in my Udi’s box of gluten-free goodies…there was a package of granola.  Now, I’ve had a few of Udi’s Gluten-Free Granola before…but I hadn’t tried the Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola yet.  So…this one, while not a new product, was a new product to me.  I hadn’t tried it yet.  In fact, I hadn’t even seen this variety in my various grocery stores I hit up on a week-to-week basis (and let me tell you…I hit up a lot every week).

Excited for my next breakfast parfait, I tucked it into my pantry for safe keeping and then…promptly went on two trips out of town and had to cancel my CSA bin of fresh and local produce and fruits.  That being said, I was finally back in town and had some leftover plain Greek yogurt from making tzatzkiki with the cucumber and red onion I had received in the bin.  When fresh blueberries showed up in my CSA bin, I already knew what was on the menu for breakfast.

A serving of Udi's Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola
A serving of Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola

The next morning, I pulled out the remainder of the Greek yogurt and knew I needed to dress it up some for my roommate.  Plain yogurt has never been her thing, so I added a dash of my gluten-free vanilla, a hit of cinnamon, and a squeeze of honey and mixed it all together.  It looked fantastic.  I gave the blueberries a rinse  and then pulled the granola out of the pantry.  It was time to assemble the parfaits…but first…I needed to see how this granola tasted on its own.

I grabbed a small cluster in the palm of my hand and popped it into my mouth.

And then…I did it again.  It was so incredibly good.  The vanilla gives it the right amount of sweetness and the almonds give it texture and this nice savory and saltiness that it needs to balance it all out.  The toasted gluten-free oats are crunchy to perfection, lending this great flavor and texture a much needed crunch.  And the sweetness of the honey really shines in each bite.  Oh yeah…this was good.  This was beyond good…this was deliciously fantastic…and amazingly addicting.

I had to tell myself to stop eating it from the bag and start making breakfast parfaits for my roommate and I.  So, into the bowl went a bit of the Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola.  I spooned some Greek yogurt over that, gave it a hit of honey, then added some blueberries.  I then repeated with another layer.  Topped it off with a bit more granola, and then hit it up with one last drizzle of honey.  The result?

Sweet, refreshing, crunchy, perfection.  It was one of the best parfaits I had assembled.  The flavors just meshed well.  The granola gave the yogurt and berries a much needed crunch.  And the sweetness blended well with that of the other components in the parfait.  I was hooked.

Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola is a good choice when it comes to gluten-free granola.  So often, granola are laden down with sugar, making them an unhealthy choice.  Which, is not what you expect when you eat granola.  A serving of Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola is 1/4 cup, which will set you back about 140 calories and 6 grams of fat.  That’s not too bad for granola.  Even better, this particular variety only has 7 grams of sugar (YAY!!  It’s one of the better ones I’ve seen!), serves you 2 grams of fiber, and 4 grams of protein.  Awesome.  This flavor has no cholestorl, no sodium, and no trans-fat.

And it is SO addictive and SO delicious.  Trust me.  Whether you eat it straight or add it to your oatmeal or yogurt…one thing is for certain…

Udi’s is continuing to do great things for the gluten-free foods on the market.  Udi’s Gluten-Free Sweet and Crunchy Vanilla Granola is just proof that good things come in small packages.  This is one delicious and fantastic granola that won’t make you feel too guilty about indulging.  Find it and try it.  You won’t be disappointed.

Love Grown Foods Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats is a cuppa cuppa steaming love

Love Grown Foods Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats
Love Grown Foods Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats

Product: Love Grown Foods Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats – $2.49+

We all know by now that every day during the workweek, my lunch consists of one thing and one thing only – gluten-free oatmeal.

I have tried a lot of gluten-free oatmeal out on the market.  Some I have liked, a couple I have loved, some I tolerated, and some…I just couldn’t bring myself to finish.

When it came to gluten-free granola, I was no stranger to the awesome and amazing lure and taste of Love Grown Foods.  They definitely had the best out on the market.  That’s why I continue to buy it.  And I probably always will.  My pantry is never without one of their varieties, for sure.  They are perfect with my fruit and Greek yogurt parfaits on non-gym mornings.  My love affair with Love Grown Foods started early.  And it has only grown ever since.

Rewind for a moment now to December 2012.  I noticed an announcement from Love Grown Foods that was declaring the release of a brand new product.  Much to my delight…it was their line of Hot Oats.  You got it…gluten-free oatmeal.  I was beside myself.  I couldn’t wait to try it.  I just…I just had to.  If their granola was on the top of my list, surely their oatmeal had to be epic.

And between the launch and the beginning of May 2013…I could only sit and wonder.  I was extremely jealous of every post I saw via Twitter of Facebook of people enjoying their Love Grown Foods Hot Oats.  Why?  Because I just could NOT find it in this area.  No shocker there, right?  It happens all the time.  A gluten-free company I trust and love announces a new product.  I get all excited and then spend up to as much as a year trying to find it in the Louisville, Kentucky area.  It’s aggravating and frustrating and makes me one unhappy gluten-free camper.

However, one store in my area must have felt my pain.  Because I was out at my local Fresh Market in Louisville, just scouting the aisles as I tend to do…and lo and behold…in the cereal aisle, the clouds parted and a ray of sunshine illuminated the shelf upon which the little cups of Love Grown Foods Hot Oats were sitting.  Okay, not really…but it makes for a much better story.  The fact of the matter is…I FINALLY found them!  At long last!  YAY!!  That…was the good news.  The bad news was, my already strict budget for gluten-free grocery shopping was reaching max capacity…so I could only purchase one of them.  JUST ONE!  After all this time.

So…that decision was to try the Love Grown Foods Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats.  Because all those ingredients were things I absolutely love in life.  So…why not?

Today…at lunch…I got my first taste of hot loving!

Making this oatmeal is so easy.  It makes the others that I eat feel so labor intensive.  Pull back top halfway, pour water up to line inside container, microwave for about 60 seconds (adding 10 to 20 seconds depending on how thick you want your oats).  Let sit for 2 minutes.  Then…devour.

Told you it was easy.

I did all of this, putting my oats in for an additional 20 seconds because I dislike soupy oatmeal, and took it back to my desk at the office to sit for two minutes.  I somehow managed to find some way to occupy myself so that I didn’t go nuts waiting for it to reach the point of doneness for consumption by…me.  Two minutes…that seemed to take forever.  Anticipation was killing me.  And then…it was time.

I peeled off the top and gave the oats a good healthy stir.  They had set up to perfection.  Nice and thick without being chunky and overdone.  YES!  Getting the consistency of the oatmeal right is a challenge in and of itself…but this made it so easy to get just right.  Creamy and thick and just how I liked them.  Lunch perfection if you ask me.  Throughout the oats, I could see the blueberries, the bits of walnut, and, yes, even some banana.  My little spoon scooped up a heap of the hot oats and I indulged in my first taste.

OH.  MY.  HOT.  OATY.  GOODNESS.

Love…LOVE…LOVE this!  Here’s the thing…not only was the consistency to my liking, it wasn’t overly sweet, it had the right amount of each of the components listed as the flavor on the front.  And all of it worked together.  Every last ingredient.  It was a little savory, a little sweet, and wasn’t a little too much of any of it.  Perfectly balanced.  The dehydrated fruits rehydrated to perfection in the microwave as it warmed.  The blueberries were soft and ripe.  The walnuts added a nice hint of savory flavor.  The banana…well…it’s banana and therefore always wins.  And the oats…creamy and steamy to perfection.  I can’t wait until I have enough room in my food budget to try another of the four flavors.

And for those of you who don’t know…the flavors that Love Grown Foods currently offers in their line of Hot Oats are: Strawberry Raspberry, Apple Cinnamon, Peach Vanilla Almond, and (of course) the Blueberry Banana Walnut.

So, now that we know these offer a spoonful of hot love in each bite…what about those pesky nutrition facts?

A serving is a single container of the hot oats.  More than enough.  It was really filling.  In fact, these oats kept me feeling full longer than any of the others that have come before it.  I approve.  One serving of the Blueberry Banana Walnut Hot Oats serves you up 240 calories (which is a bit higher than other gluten-free oatmeal out there…but…yeah…don’t even count calories here…this is love…and you can’t put a calorie stamp on love!) and 4.5 grams of fat, of which a good percentage comes from the healthy fats contained in the walnuts.  So fear not.  The sugar content might seem a bit high at 12 grams, but brown sugar is one of the ingredients…and fruits naturally have sugar in them.  I give this one a pass.  As for fiber, you get served 5 filling grams of it and you also will be devouring a protein power-punch of 7 grams.  This gluten-free athlete (who craves protein due to also being vegetarian) approves.  Mightily approves.

And as I mentioned ingredients above…you’ve pretty much heard them all – certified gluten-free oats, brown sugar, banana, walnuts, blueberries, and cinnamon.  That’s it.  Nothing fake here.  All real ingredients.  All real good for you.

I encourage you, and even implore you to seek out Love Grown Foods Hot Oats at your local natural food stores or grocery stores.  If they don’t have them, talk to customer service to see if they can order in the products.  I hope my budget eases up a bit so I can afford to try another one.  Because if the rest of the flavors that are out there come close to the amazing and awesomeness of the Blueberry Banana Walnut version, well…I might be in for a lot of budget juggling in my future.

Love Grown Foods continues to prove that putting a lot of love and care into the development, production, and taste of a product can pay off.  I’m hooked.  And now I just want more Hot Oats in my life.  And stat.

A touch of sweet honey brings great flavor to Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch cereal

Van's Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch Cereal
Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch Cereal

Product: Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch Cereal – $5.49+

There are just some brand names that you come back to in the gluten-free universe.  Some are just leaps and bounds above the competition.  Some have worked very hard to obtain that status, maintain their quality, and sustain their consumers with the finest products made from the finest ingredients.

I have numerous brands that, when in a pinch, I will search high and low for, if needed.  Sometimes these brands are easier to come by than others.  It just depends on the region of the country that you live in.

Thankfully, I never seem to have a problem when it comes to finding the gluten-free products that are part of the line-up from Van’s Natural Foods.

My love affair with Van’s Natural Foods began with their gluten-free French Toast Sticks and gluten-free Waffles.  It hasn’t ended there…thanks to a plethora of new gluten-free items just released from this fantastic company.

One of these products…cereal.

Previously I had tried the Cinnamon Heaven gluten-free cereal and really voiced my love.  That love still exists.  I crave that cereal at really strange times.  It was really that good.  But…there was another one on the market that was begging for me to indulge a little.  So…I had to pick it up…even if it was more expensive than my usual go-to gluten-free cereals.

This time, I picked up Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch Cereal.  What I love at first glance is right on the box.  You get 19 grams of nutrient-rich whole grains with each serving as well as 5 filling grans of fiber.  Loving it!  That simple 3/4 cup serving will also only set you back 120 calories for the day and only 1 gram of fat.  Healthy, healthy, yes?  The runner in me loves that the sugar is only at 7 grams, which is awesome for a cereal.  Do keep in mind, that while you get a healthy dose of fiber in this cereal, the protein level is much lower, topping out only at 2 grams.  But…hey…I’m a runner.  I’ll eat some peanut butter later…on a spoon…from the jar.  HA!

So, now that you’ve got the nitty-gritty not-so-bad nutritional aspect of the cereal, I bet you’re dying to know how they taste?

Truth…they are fantastic.  Like…Honey Nut Cheerios…but not as overpoweringly sweet on the honey.  That subtle honey flavor is what really makes this breakfast cereal shine.  These little squares of whole grain goodness are infused with a sweet hint of honey, enough to wake up your tastebuds in the morning.  Especially when you add a splash of almond milk to it.  The sweet honey flavor doesn’t dissipate or deteriorate…it only gets better.  I also love that these little squares of breakfast goodness aren’t overly crunchy.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my cereal to have a crunch and to not get soggy when I add my almond milk.  Soggy cereal sucks.  Van’s Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch maintains it’s delicate crunch throughout the entire feasting period.  And I tend to eat my cereal slow.  Mind you, if you are trying to multitask and make coffee, flip pancakes, get snacks or lunches together and let the cereal sit…yeah…it will get soggy.  But it stands up to the addition of milk for a good, long time in my opinion.  And that sweet honey flavor doesn’t leave either.  It stays in the squares.  I love that I can still hear things over the gentle crunch and that my morning range of hearing isn’t handicapped by my teeth gnashing away at my bowl of cereal.  These are phenomenal.  Honestly.  It was hard to keep myself from going back for another bowl.

One other point to make about Van’s Natural Foods is that on the ingredient panel, they list ingredients with the subscript (That We Are Proud Of!).  And if you read them over, you’ll know why.  The Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch cereal contains simply Van’s Gluten Free Whole Grain Blend (which is a blend of oat, brown rice, millet, quinoa and amaranth flours), Cane Sugar, Oat Fiber, Inulin, Invert Cane Sugar, Salt, Honey, Calcium Carbonate, Natural Flavors, Natural Mixed Tocopherols for Freshness.  I can see why they are proud of those ingredients.  And it makes me a happy consumer and customer in the end.  Especially when I can identify every single thing on there.

Gluten-free cereals can be hit or miss and often are pumped full of extra fat or extra sugar.  I love that Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Honey Nut Crunch cereal is good without having to be a sugary, fattening treat in the morning.  If I wanted that…I’d eat a gluten-free doughnut.  Van’s does gluten-free right and I am loving both flavors of gluten-free cereal, fresh out on the market.  I encourage you to buy them and try them yourself.  I love them…you will too.  Down to the very last square.

Bakery on Main goes Traditional and then gives a fun spin to their gluten-free oatmeal

Bakery On Main
Bakery On Main

I have to admit…when I saw the news coming out of Expo West from Bakery On Main, touting two brand new oatmeal flavors.  Two very delicious brand new oatmeal flavors.  In fact, the flavors just happened to be two of my most favorite treats in the world…which I usually only get if I make them, due to being gluten-free.  What might these new flavors be?

Carrot Cake and Blueberry Scone.

Go ahead and read those again.  Your eyes are not deceiving you.

Now, back when I was first getting used to my gluten-free diet, I was looking for something I could eat at work that wouldn’t cost me an arm and a leg and would be quick and easy to make…as well as eat at my desk.  The answer: gluten-free oatmeal.

I tried numerous brands, but absolutely fell in love with Bakery On Main.  Nothing has come close to the flavor profiles that they weave into their oatmeal.  It took a lot of gluten-free oatmeal sampling…but I have become dedicated to this particular company when it comes to oatmeal.  It is the best out on the market, and I will forever say that.  I should know…I eat it every day for lunch.

Yep.  Every.  Single.  Day.

It makes the anticipation leading into lunch even greater…knowing that I’ll soon have a piping hot bowl of oatmeal to eat and enjoy…and savor.  Because I love to savor this oatmeal.

Well, soon after Expo West, I was sent sleeves of each flavor oatmeal they try.  I have been eating, enjoying, and growing even more in love with their Strawberry Shortcake, their Apple Pie, and their Maple Multigrain Muffin (which since that post, I have eaten more and more of, and love just as much as the others.  Honestly…I should do a blog redux on that flavor.  It has earned my respect and the respect of my oatmeal-craving palate).  Already I knew their oatmeal was epic.  But…there were three flavors I had yet to try.  And now…they were in my possession.

The first one, actually, had been out on the market for awhile.  It’s simple.  It’s basic.  It’s Bakery On Main’s Gluten-Free Traditional Flavor Oatmeal.  It doesn’t get much more basic than that.  Simple.  And sometimes that can be a bad thing.  But that is not the case here.  In fact, this was the oatmeal I was least enthusiastic about trying.  I even brought some fruit to throw into it.  Guess what?  It didn’t need anything to touch it up.  Not in the slightest.  While I have never been a fan of just plain oatmeal…I am a fan of this one.  A huge fan.  I actually incorporated the fruit and then was sorry that I did, because the oatmeal was much more amazing without it.  Lesson learned.

This is no ordinary traditional oatmeal.  This is traditional taken to the next level.  The flavor was amazing.  It didn’t lack any sweetness.  And the texture…as with the other flavors I have been eating for…over a year now…fantastic.  Just amazing.  Warm.  Rich.  Filling.  This, once again, proves how amazing Bakery On Main is when it comes to their products.  They ensure the quality and flavor of their products.  And that means they work hard to achieve flavor perfection.  This…is perfection.

Nutritionally speaking, the Traditional Flavor Oatmeal from Bakery on Main is 200 calories per serving and 4 grams of fat.  Not too shabby.  And just right for a light lunch.  Trust me.  But the amazing nutritional worth doesn’t stop there.  Nope.  Let me continue.  You see, Bakery on Main has achieved oatmeal perfection with their tried-and-true blend of certified gluten-free oats, chia seeds, flax meal, quinoa, and amaranth.  What this does is boost that nutrition profile a little, giving each serving of this oatmeal 8 grams of protein per bowl and 6 grams of fiber.  This flavor has no sodium, no cholesterol, no trans-fat, and is sugar-free as well.  LOVING that.

Oh…did I mention that it is amazing?  Even if you don’t think you like plain oats…you’ll love this one.  If I did…I can guarantee that you will too.  Trust me, leave the fruit at home.  You won’t need it and you’ll only ruin perfection.

The newest flavors were what I was looking at trying first.  And the first one selected:

Carrot Cake.

Yep.  Bakery On Main Gluten-Free Carrot Cake Flavor Oatmeal.  Sounds like dessert for breakfast, yes?  Oh…trust me…it is so much more.  I am a huge lover of carrot cake.  Honestly.  It doesn’t get much better than a delicious slice of carrot cake.  In fact, I’ve created quite a few carrot cake flavored things (pancakes, scones, etc.) just because I love the taste of carrot cake so very much.  It’s one of my guilty pleasures.  And I am unashamed.

That being said, when I set about preparing this oatmeal just as I have all the rest of Bakery On Main’s oatmeal.  I poured out the contents of the packet, which, as always is a base of certified gluten free oats, amaranth, chia seeds, flax meal, and quinoa, making even a dessert-y oatmeal a great source of whole grains.  Love it.  I added 2/3 cup of water and tossed it into the  microwave for 90 seconds.  While it was cooking…oh my gluten-free god…it smelled fantastic.  I might have drooled more than a little.  When it was done cooking, I gave it a stir…and went to take my first bite.

Yep.  Dessert for breakfast (or in my case lunch, but really…it’s carrot cake…it’s good anytime!).  No doubt about it.

In fact, as I was eating it, my roommate stopped by my desk and asked what smelled so good.  I let her have  a taste.  She’s not a fan of oatmeal at all and she can take or leave (but mostly leave) carrot cake…but she was blown away by this one.  Now that’s saying something.  I didn’t have any nutrition information on these, but I’m guessing that the calories fall around where the other flavors do, about 200 per sleeve of oatmeal.  Remember…these are brand new to the market…as in they hit shelves just recently.  But, what I do know from Bakery On Main’s Web site is that this particular flavor was adapted from an actual carrot cake recipe.  No wonder it tastes so good.  If you like a little bit of dessert in your life without a lot of calories, fat and sugar…give Bakery On Main’s Gluten-Free Carrot Cake Flavor Instant Oatmeal a try.

Lastly, but certainly not least is the other brand new flavor from Bakery On Main in their instant oatmeal lineup.

Blueberry Scone.

Mmmm…scones.  We all know that I bake plenty of scones pretty much every week.  They are portable, delicious, and guaranteed to be gluten-free when I make them.  Among my favorites…blueberry.  So, when an oatmeal is given the flavor of one of my favorite breakfast treats, you better believe that I’m anticipating each and every spoonful.

I first fell in love with scones when I visited Europe back in 2003.  Every time I’ve gone back, I’ve devoured one or more somewhere…normally at a local café for an on-the-fly snack.  But, then I had to go gluten-free…and now scones have to be made by me if I’m going to eat them at all.  No problem.  But…here…Bakery On Main takes this classic coffee house treat and turns it into a bowl of oatmeal.  Not only are pieces of real blueberries incorporated into the mix, but the normal blend of certified gluten-free oats, chia seeds, flax meal, amaranth and quinoa…all providing the perfect nutritional balance to this sweet oatmeal treat.

Let me tell you…not only does this oatmeal smell fantastic as it warmed and cooked in the microwave, it tasted beyond fantastic as well.  Just like a blueberry scone.  A soft, mushy scone…like the dough before it bakes, warmed through.  Yep…nailed it, Bakery on Main.  This one totally took me by surprise.  I am a huge fan.  LOVING each and every spoonful.

Again, this is a brand new flavor and currently there is no nutrition information up on the Web site…but again I anticipate it to fall around 200 calories per serving, with low fat, low sodium, and high in protein with a good dose of your daily fiber.  Nutrition while feasting on something that tastes like a treat.  It doesn’t get much better than that.  YUM!

Total oatmeal love going out to Bakery On Main once again.  They won me over with their first three flavors, and they totally went above and beyond all expectations with the release of their new flavors.  From Traditonal to Carrot Cake to Blueberry Scone…Bakery On Main is totally making over oatmeal for the better.  And all of this gluten-free goodness is hitting shelves in your area…soon.  If it hasn’t already.  Go seek.  Go find.  Go enjoy.  These flavors are totally worth it.

Satisfy your cravings for a coffee house scone with a savory bowl of Bakery On Main’s Blueberry Scone Instant Oatmeal. This breakfast treat won’t let you down with pieces of real blueberries, chia seeds and our favorite ancient grains, Amaranth and Quinoa.

Pure flavor and pure ingredients make Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Fig Granola purely amazing

Purely Elizabeth Gluten-Free Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal

Product: Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal – $7.99+

Granola is one of those foods that can walk a fine line between healthy and…not so healthy.  It all comes down to the ingredients.  I have had some really amazing gluten-free granola in the past…but my problem with it is that it is always laden with extra sugars.  WHY?!  Granola doesn’t have to be rich in sugar in order to taste good.

Proof is in the package – and in this case it’s Purely Elizabeth’s Pumpkin Fig Granola.

I admit, I was apprehensive about my choice to pick up the Pumpkin Fig Granola.  My local Whole Foods store had a couple of other selections from Purely Elizabeth…but after looking at the Cranberry Pecan and the Original flavors, I decided to go with a flavor that no other gluten-free granola company had tackled yet.  Pretty much any fruit would pair well with it…so that’s what I decided on.  As to why I decided to hop brands to a different gluten-free granola…it wasn’t any reason, per se…just the fact that this one happened to be on the shelves at Whole Foods and caught my eye.

I like to utilize granola in fruity breakfast parfaits.  I will layer it with vanilla Chobani yogurt and a fresh fruit of some sort, whether it’s fresh organic berries, kiwi, or apples and pears that I caramelize…it makes a nice change from having cereal every morning.  So, it falls into rotation every other morning, normally when my roommate and I are not hitting up the gym for our 60 minute cardio and strength training.

What I loved, immediately, about Purely Elizabeth was that the items that the company produces are all natural and organic, using nutritious alternative grains and superfood seeds.  The products are free of sugar, dairy, wheat and gluten.  Loving it already.  Purely Elizabeth founder, Elizabeth Stein, was perusing a career as a holistic nutrition counselor where she learned about the connection between what you eat and how you feel – specifically how sugar, wheat and dairy can negatively impact health.  Her mission became simple…to create gluten-free and vegan products that were not overly processed that still tasted good.  She totally succeeded.

A serving of Purely Elizabeth Gluten-Free Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal
A serving of Purely Elizabeth Gluten-Free Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal

This morning marked the inaugural tasting of the Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Fig Granola.  I was going to pair it with the vanilla Greek yogurt and some organic strawberries that came in my CSA bin.  Pumpkin, fig, strawberry?  Could it possibly work?  Only one way to find out…but first…I needed to see if my palate was going to appreciate the flavor of Pumpkin and Fig together in this granola form.  I reached into the pouch of granola and swiped a pinch of the ancient grain cereal.  I popped it in my mouth…and knew it was going to be okay.

I loved how the pumpkin flavor wasn’t overpowering.  Sometimes, as much as I love pumpkin, it can get to be a bit much.  It can really take away from the product itself.  And the balance of the sweet dry figs made the ideal blend.  Match that with the  variety of flavors and textures that come with the inclusion of gluten-free oats, organic puffed amaranth, organic quinoa flakes, organic pumpkin seeds, organic sunflower seeds, organic chia seeds, and the sweetness of the organic coconut palm sugar, and cinnamon…and what you have is a recipe for amazing flavor.  Add in the organic raw virgin coconut oil and a hint of sea salt…and that’s what you’ll find in every bag of Purely Elizabeth Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal.

Amazing?  You better believe it.

Even more amazing than the blend of flavors and textures is the nutritional value of a serving of this cereal.  The combination of ingredients are all natural, organic, and gluten-free…the ancient grains all providing excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants.  Loving that.  One serving is 1/3 cup, which serves you up 140 calories and 6 grams of fat.  Not too shabby.  Especially since the fat content is derived from the raw virgin coconut oil, and this sort of fat gets used as energy, rather than stored.  Loving that.  A serving of this granola has only 6 grams of sugar and will provide you with 4 grams of protein.  It is low in sodium (110 grams) as well.  All the granola is hand baked and made with over 70% certified organic ingredients.  No artificial colors or flavors are added either.  Which means…what you see is what you get.

And what you get is a delicious blend of oats, seeds, ancient grains, and dried figs.  And all together it provides a delicious, and not overpowering flavor to whatever you choose to add it to…or if you just enjoy it on its own with a splash of milk.  Either way, you should feel good about the food you are eating.  I feel good about choosing Purely Elizabeth and I highly recommend the Pumpkin Fig Ancient Grain Granola Cereal.

It’s different.  It’s tasty.  It’s purely…delicious.

Not just waffles anymore – Van’s Natural Foods dishes up delicious Cinnamon Heaven cereal

Van's Natural Foods Gluten-Free Cinnamon Heaven Cereal
Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Cinnamon Heaven Cereal

Product: Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Cinnamon Heaven Cereal – $5.49+

When I heard the brand name, Van’s Natural Foods, or just Van’s…I’ve always thought of one thing.  Breakfast.  Van’s actually delivered the first stunning gluten-free waffle to my breakfast plate back when I just went gluten-free.  I had tried another brand prior…and it was mushy and just…not what I was looking for in a waffle.  The moment I had one of Van’s gluten-free waffles…I was hooked.

Even my friend, Jenn, who doesn’t have to eat gluten-free, prefers Van’s gluten-free waffles to other brands such as Eggo.  That speaks very highly of quality, don’t you think?

Recently, however, it seems Van’s is delving into a little more of the breakfast food market.  While at my favorite grocery store, searching for a gluten-free cereal to have for breakfast, the top shelf boasted boxes of Van’s gluten-free cereals.

HELLO!  What is this?

There were two different varieties: Cinnamon Heaven and Honey Nut Crunch.

I currently was working on a cereal that had a strong honey flavor in it, so I opted for the Cinnamon Heaven cereal.

I think secretly I was longing for it to be reminiscent of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal my sister claimed as one of her favorite cereals growing up.  We had it often.  And yeah…nothing quite beats a dose of cinnamon and sugar over little cereal puffs in the morning.  It’s true.  My sister was really onto something there.

Well, this morning marked the big occasion.  I had just used up my last gluten-free cereal (which was…just meh…so, it won’t make it into my pantry again), so the Van’s Natural Foods Gluten-Free Cinnamon Heaven was up.  Spotlight on.  Moment of truth.

I dished up a serving (yes…I actually do measure out serving sizes!) and grabbed a couple extra…just to taste on their own…before I poured any of my unsweetened almond milk over it.  Oh.  My.  Cinnagoodness.

So, the fact is…they taste nothing like Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  So those childhood fantasies were immediately quashed.  HOWEVER…let me finish…this is not to say that I was in the least disappointed by the cereal I had just eaten.  The opposite is actually true.  I was impressed.

First of all, this cereal is very light.  It’s not heavy like I remember the little toasties in Cinnamon Toast Crunch being.  These are little puffs of whole grain cereal.  In fact, this cereal boasts five whole grains.  Each one is lightly, very lighty, dusted and sweetened with real cinnamon.  Did you see that key word there?  REAL cinnamon.  And what results is a light, sweet, fantastic tasting cereal that makes you feel like a kid again, but has you eating like a responsible adult.  But this isn’t to say your little kiddliewinks wouldn’t love it as well.  The hint of cinnamon is what makes it.  You aren’t overwhelmed by it.  So, you still get to taste the cereal, without it being masked behind a lot of sugar or additives.

With that mention, let me also say this about Van’s Cinnamon Heaven cereal.  Not only is this product gluten-free, but it is certfied kosher, completely dairy-free, corn-free, all natural, low in sodium, high in fiber, contains no artificial colors of flavors, contains NO high fructose corn syrup, and contains a full serving of whole grains.  So, you’re eating well without pumping a lot of unknowns or chemicals into your body.

One of my favorite little things on this box was right on the ingredient panel.  Right after the bold word, INGREDIENTS, there is this addendum typed in parentheses that mad me smile and believe more in this company.  It simply reads: (That We Are Proud Of!).  Only ingredients that this company is proud of and backs goes into this cereal.  That being said, you will recognize everything on that panel.  And the list is short.  It includes Van’s gluten-free whole grain blend (which is oats, brown rice, millet, quinoa, and amaranth flours), cane sugar, oat fiber, inulin, invert cane sugar, non-GMO canola oil, cinnamon, and salt.  Simple.  Recognizable.  Trustworthy.

The fact of the matter is, this cereal is delicious.  It was love at first bite for me.  Light, yet filling.  And with 17 grams of whole grains and 5 grams of protein, it’s no wonder you’ll feel full after eating this cereal.  A serving size of 3/4 cup will only feed you 120 calories of your daily intake and 1 gram of fat.  How about that for starting your morning right?  With only 8 grams of sugar, you won’t feel bad about eating this cereal either.  It is more like breakfast than dessert.  I like that.  A serving will also dish up 2 grams of protein as well.  You can’t argue with this being a nutritious way to start your day.  But keep in mind, cereals like this are so versatile.  Throw it into your morning parfait, take it as a snack on-the-go, or eat it at midnight after a concert (cereal always tastes better at midnight!).

I really want to congratulate Van’s Natural Foods for this important, delicious, and healthy breakfast cereal.  I’m hooked.  I was hoping that I’d love it…but I ended up falling in love with it…at first taste.  And that, my dear friends, is how you can not only see and taste the quality of the product, but appreciate the quality of the company too.  I trust Van’s.  They brought me amazing gluten-free waffles.  Now, they not only fill my freezer, but my pantry too.

Sunrise is way too sweet when it comes to Nature’s Path Gluten-Free Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal

Nature's Path Gluten-Free Sunrise Vanilla Crunch Cereal

Cereal.  It’s the most basic breakfast item out there.  It’s also an easy go-to lunch, dinner, or midnight snack.  Trust me…I have eaten it for every meal occasion out there.  But…mostly for breakfast.  Especially on race mornings or gym mornings.  Why?  Because it’s simple, easy, and not something that requires a lot of preparation or clean up.

I love the simplicity of a bowl of cereal.  But cereal can either be good…or not so good.  And sometimes…it can just be bad.

A couple days ago, I opened up a box of cereal I had never tried before.  But I found it at my grocery store and decided to give it a go.  After all, sometimes you need a different flavor, texture, brand, or just…something different to brighten up your mornings.  So, instead of getting one of my Envirokidz cereals, I opted for Nature’s Path Gluten-Free Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla Cereal.

I would put this one in the second category.  The Not So Good.

It’s not that this cereal is at all bad.  In fact, nutritionally speaking, this is one of the better ones out there.  Especially for the gluten-free crowd.  Let’s take a look, shall we?

A serving of Nature’s Path Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal is 2/3 cup.  This serving will only set you back 110 calories (without milk…I use a splash of unsweetened almond milk, so I probably total 120 calories with mine).  Not bad for a breakfast cereal.  A serving only has 1 gram of fat, 6 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, and 2 grams of protein.  The Sunrise Crunchy Vanilla cereal also contains 12 grams of whole grains.

This cereal is chock-full of a variety of crunchy textures from flakes to puffs to crispies.  So, at least it keeps the palate interested.  But…stop right there.  For me…depsite being lower in sugars for a breakfast cereal…I found this one WAY too sweet.  Oh…wow…is it ever sweet!

Thank goodness I use unsweetened almond milk to top off my cereal because without it…this might be an big fail.  It’s tolerable, flavor-wise…save for that vanilla sweetness that stings your taste buds and keeps on going from there.  It just tastes off to me.  Perhaps I’m used to milder flavors in the morning.  This one definitely sucker-punches your taste buds with an abundance of vanilla flavor.  It’s way too much for my liking and tends to take away from the otherwise pleasing textures of the cereal itself.

Oh, I was so disappointed with this one.  As it isn’t offensive, I’m still eating it.  Going to use it up and move on…never to purchase this one again.  I think, in my mind, I was hoping it would be a lot like the Kay’s Naturals Gluten-Free cereal I tried last year.  But this one was nowhere near that caliber of deliciousness.  Like…completely went in the opposite direction.

While we all crave something sweet some mornings, this is just too much all at once.  Thank you, Nature’s Path, for changing up the offerings for the gluten-free crowd…but this one just doesn’t suit me at all.  Maybe take that vanilla sweetness down a notch.  Then we’ll talk.  Until then…back to Envirokidz.

The KIND-ness of a healthy and sweet take on granola with Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa

KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa

Here is a tale of my typical Saturday.  After I run, either in a race or for training, my roommate and I usually get some food (breakfast/brunch) and then start our usual routine of grocery shopping.  And, in case you were wondering, yes…this is pretty much an all-day adventure.  With my dietary needs, there are certain stores in the area that carry certain staples or items that I need or use or just want.  And I can’t get them at the usual suspects when it comes to grocery stores.  So, it means a drive to Louisville to hit up the wide array of natural food stores and organic grocery stores that they have.  Thank goodness for that.

Where am I going with this?

Well, I was lax this past week in my duties of creating a grocery list of items I needed as we ran low or out of them.  I was just…busy…stressed…or whatever.  That being the case, after I raced on Saturday morning and we grabbed brunch at a local restaurant, we headed out to accomplish our grocery shopping from the list I randomly threw together while we noshed…hoping that I didn’t leave anything out.

As we came back over to our side of the river, to finish up on products available everywhere but cheaper at certain grocery stores…there were still a number of things on the list.  And as we stood in the refrigerated section with all the yogurt, and I piled our cart full of Chobani Greek Yogurt…it didn’t even dawn on me that…we used up the last of the granola last week.  Well, that was until we ducked into the cereal aisle and that knowledge hit me like a ton of bricks.  DUH!

Normally, I adorn the breakfast parfait I whip up (which consists of granola, vanilla Greek yogurt, and fresh fruit) with Love Grown Foods granola.  But this particular grocery store didn’t have that brand and after being at a dozen other stores that day…I just wanted to finish up and go home.  So, I scanned…just to see what they might have that is gluten-free.  And what did I spy with my weary grocery shopping eyes?

KIND Healthy Grains.

GLUTEN-FREE!  Yep.  I am in love with most of the KIND bars I have been eating, so I figured…why not use this for my granola this time around.  Branch out.  Try something new.  They had about five different flavors to choose from, so I called my roommate over to select one.  I would have been happy with any of them.  She, however, can be a bit pickier…so it’s best to let her choose at times.  She scanned the flavor varieties for a moment and reached out to grab…the KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa.

Not the one I expected her to grab.  So, that was a surprise.

KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa
KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa

Today was the big day.  Instead of regular cereal, on non-gym days I have a bit more time in the kitchen, so I usually whip up a nice warm breakfast along with a breakfast fruit, yogurt and granola parfait.  Today’s combination…caramelized apples with vanilla Greek yogurt and topped off with KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters.  I’m a pro at the apples part, so I got those working in a pan on the stove.  Then, I opened up the bag of Maple Walnut Clusters.

First appearances…awesome.  Big clusters, little clusters, and individual oats are literally throughout this bag.  It makes for great texture and great combination.  With the variety of cluster sizes, it definitely makes scattering them throughout the parfait a little more exciting.  I reached into the bag and snagged one of the bigger clusters…because if I was going to blog on these, I needed to taste them on their own.  I popped it in my mouth and slowly began to chew.

Really, really good.  I mean…wow.  The maple flavor lends the right amount of sweetness an the walnuts gives it that balance that you look for in a granola.  I thought the texture was awesome and it had a great crunch to it.  And, this would definitely pair well with caramelized apples, for sure.  So, I was pretty stoked about the new granola.  I placed some in the bottom of the two bowls, topped it with some of the vanilla Greek yogurt, then hit it up with some apples…repeated the layers…then gave the top a light sprinkling of the Maple Walnut Clusters and called it a breakfast masterpiece.

And it was.  I thought the texture and flavors meshed so well with the fruit and yogurt combination this morning.  In fact, if anything, it added a hint of sweetness to the finished product.  I kept going back for more.  The clusters didn’t get soggy in the yogurt, even when I had to let mine sit for a moment while I finished preparing the quinoa breakfast porridge with blueberries and toasted walnuts.  I had a lot working in the kitchen today…so my attention was divided between different dishes I was making…and making sure I was getting myself fed before heading out the door.  So, KIND totally hit the nail on the head with its KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa.  Seriously good eats.

As for any nutritional information, the KIND Healthy Grains Maple Walnut Clusters with Chia and Quinoa contains a heart-healthy blend of walnuts, chia, and whole grains amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet, and buckwheat.  They are sweetened with a hint of maple syrup.  And, as a bonus, these clusters contain 300 mg of Omega-3 fatty acids and provide 17 grams of whole grains per serving.  And how much is a serving?  1/3 cup.  Yep.  That’s really good for a granola.  Trust me!

This 1/3 cup of KIND Healthy Grains will also provide your body with 130 calories and 3.5 grams of fat . Not too shabby.  Not at all.  Even better, these clusters are not littered with excess sugars.  In fact, the sugar content is quite low, standing at 6 grams per serving.  LOVE that.  A LOT!  And, thanks to the addition of chia and quinoa, each serving provides 3 grams of protein.  It’s nice to have a healthier granola option out on the market.  Also, KIND Healthy Grains are all gluten-free, cholesterol free, low in sodium, and all natural.

What’s not to love about that?

I hope to try some more varieties of the KIND Healthy Grains line in the very near future.  My breakfast parfaits depend on it!
